English. By the WIDA Can-do standards, they are “entering” at level one and “emerging” at level two. In this class we focus on language development in the context of everyday situations with readings from a variety of sources. We also utilize instructional software titles that aid in language acquisition.  Those titles include My Virtual Reading Coach by Mindplay, ESL Reading Smart, and new to 2017-2018, ReadTheory.org.  Each of these applications uses student data and metrics to tailor ENL instruction to the individual student.

The International Seminar class includes students who are “developing” and “expanding” their skills in English. This class works on PBLs (Project-Based Learning Projects) in the PNN News Room and Studio to produce a segment for the

PNN News Show called The World Report.  Using the PNN model RUNDOWN and SCRIPT, we write and produce stories about what is happening outside the US borders, beyond Bittersweet in other words.  This class values the many cultures that come together in the PNN newsroom, and it embraces the experiences these writers have had before they arrived in Mishawaka, Indiana.  By counting these experiences and understandings as valued assets, students are able to publish

Good morning, all.  I hope you are well.  I went for a long walk with my dog this morning.  There is a lot of snow out there, and there is not much traffic.  I would not recommend going for a drive.  My dog (Heidi) sure liked it though. Just a reminder that this is an eLearning day (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.  Your Gold day teachers should have already sent assignments through Canvas or Google Classroom, and it is important that you complete them.  If you need help, I am only an email away. I will be available all day. You can also use Google Hangouts to chat with me for a quicker messaging system.  Good luck and keep in touch!  -Mr. McNulty

Good morning, kiddos! 1. Duolingo: well we have had mixed success with this program (because it does not have enough languages in its repertoire), but let's keep trying to use it anyway.  I like how it gets you to speak and write in English.  Kinda cool. 2. Let's not forget to read in English.  Readtheory.org is our go-to for that.  How shall we measure your latest progress?  Let's chat. 3. Our big project is the Research Project. Bukola, Cynthia, Chisomo, Thanh, Tania, Deyni, and Shania will all benefit from using this module to write your Research Paper for your English class.  The rest of us will benefit from doing and writing on a research topic that is interesting.  So, let's begin with the introduction. Please look over this module for homework this weekend. In the end, you will: Write a complete research paper Discuss that paper with editors Present your research to the class, in front of the class Have a nice weekend, students!  I hope you get to go out and play in the snow. First, I will be available all day. You can email me or use Google Hangouts to chat with me if you have questions about my assignments or anyone else's assignments.  That's right, if you need help in your other classes, please do not hesitate to drop me a note. If you would like me to get in touch with Gabby or Nat, I can do that too.  Just let me know. Second, I will be posting some assignments related to our First Amendment. You have seen the signs in our newsroom and the freedoms it preserves (can you name all five in order?). Well, today we will look at how they apply to you in school (and out of school, like today). I will post this group of assignments a little later this morning. Finally, as you all know, we will be taking the WIDA ACCESS test in less than two weeks. To prepare for that, we just need to keep practicing our reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Upfront Magazine will help us with that, but I would also like to continue our work in Read Theory.  You had a great semester there, and I would like to continue that energy in the second semester. Therefore, please complete three readings and three quizzes there today and then five more over the three day weekend.  That will keep your English language flowing.  I will post those quizzes here, on Canvas.
