In the Basic Strategies Development class, students are working early in the process of acquiring

The WIDA Can-Do standards can be found at wida.gov.

English. By the WIDA Can-do standards, they are “entering” at level one and “emerging” at level two. In this class we focus on language development in the context of everyday situations with readings from a variety of sources. We also utilize instructional software titles that aid in language acquisition.  Those titles include My Virtual Reading Coach by Mindplay, ESL Reading Smart, and new to 2017-2018, ReadTheory.org.  Each of these applications uses student data and metrics to tailor ENL instruction to the individual student.

The International Seminar class includes students who are “developing” and “expanding” their skills in English. This class works on PBLs (Project-Based Learning Projects) in the PNN News Room and Studio to produce a segment for the

PNN News Show called The World Report.  Using the PNN model RUNDOWN and SCRIPT, we write and produce stories about what is happening outside the US borders, beyond Bittersweet in other words.  This class values the many cultures that come together in the PNN newsroom, and it embraces the experiences these writers have had before they arrived in Mishawaka, Indiana.  By counting these experiences and understandings as valued assets, students are able to publish

writing with an authoritative voice.

As you all know, it is due TODAY.  Please complete it right after the check-in.  You may use the magazine.  Oh, and be sure to do a good job on #9. Read the question carefully and answer it with detailed information from the text. 3.     Happy Friday everyone, the weekend is finally here. Today is the last day to complete the tasks under this weeks Module! Notice, I removed the speaking activities from the assignments tab...you're welcome! So far, I have everything graded and entered that I have. If you do not see a grade for something you already completed today, let me know! Mr. McNulty will not be looking at any of these assignments, so if they are not submitted by the end of today, they will remain a zero. So, please get them done and submitted today! The Agenda:  1. Finish the tasks for this weeks module: Grammar worksheet, 2 reading activities and 2 listening activities (I decided not to require the speaking activities) 2. REVISE!!!     Good morning everyone and happy Hump Day (Wednesday).  Today's Agenda:  1. Go to the google doc and next to your name, write the name of the two assignments that you are going to complete today. Choose two. Then, scroll to the second list. If you see that I have not written any assignments next to your name, please submit the missing assignments and write the name of them in the google doc as well. 2. Module For This Week 23 April through 27 April: Complete AT LEAST two tasks Remember, you are responsible for having two assignments from the module submitted each day! These assignments will be graded daily. You have a totally of 7 assignments to complete for the week. Therefore, make sure that you give yourself enough time to complete three one day.  By the end of today, you will have submitted FOUR of the SEVEN tasks, TWO from Monday and TWO from today! 3. Conference with Mr. McNulty: It is critical that you use your time well today and stay on task. Mr. McNulty will be taking you out of the room one by one to have a conference with you about your WIDA results and to set personal goals for future growth. 4. Today is the Cultural Festival, starting at 6:00 pm; so if you have not decided how you are going to represent your cultural background, make that your priority today.     Its Friday! Hope everyone has had a great first week back from Break. Today is a busy day; today is the last day to submit your scripts and to get your presentation recorded. So here is our to do list: 1. "Story Time"-Opener 2. Finish Script and SUBMIT! (Today is the last day to submit your written script. Remember, the written script is a REQUIRED submission and will be graded. If you have not already made this available to us through Google Drive, check your email. You have an email from Mr. McNulty, which you can follow to Google Drive and create a NEW document, LABELED your name, and PASTED your paper to). 3. RECORD! (The recording is also due today! Once again, if you would not like your presentation to be a part of the Cultural Festival Video, please let me or Mr. McNulty know. You are still required to submit to myself and Mr. McNulty the video; however, it will only be used as part of the project grade, and kept out of the Cultural Festival Video). 4. If you have not began recording today, your script must still be submitted by the end of the hour! 4. Recording: As soon as you are finished with your script, come find me or Mr. McNulty, so that we can get your script recorded.     Good morning, all, and welcome back!  I hope you had a nice weekend. I imagine the weather helped you catch up on your sleep! 🙂  Before we begin, can two of you please share this agenda with Shania & Mrs. Nay (our Sub.)? Here are a couple things I would like you to accomplish today.   1. ReadTheory.org:  you are doing a fine job in this program!  As a class, you have taken 375 quizzes, you have built 7,415 knowledge points, and your program average Lexile level is 454.  You should be proud of those numbers.  Most of you are working very hard, and you are beating the other class in quizzes and knowledge points. Beginning with ReadTheory Quiz #6, there are some new requirements.  We have a goal to reach in December, and this is how we are going to do it.  Please begin today! 2. The Great Pumpkin Storyboard- you are doing a fine job with it, but I cannot give you feedback on your writing unless they are turned in using Google Drive and the SHARE link.  Please remember to make me an editor.     Good morning, all, and happy Wednesday!  You are halfway through the week. Here are a couple things I would like you to accomplish today.   1. ReadTheory.org:  you are doing a fine job in this program!  As a class, you have now taken 393 quizzes, you added over 300 knowledge points yesterday to get to 7,783 knowledge points, and your Lexile average ticked up to 455.  Nice work!  Most of you are working very hard, and you are still beating the other class in quizzes and knowledge points. As you now know, beginning with ReadTheory Quiz #6, there are some new requirements.  My birthday party is a goal for December, and working on it each day will get us there. So please begin class today with 30 minutes of work on ReadTheory.org. 2. The Great Pumpkin Storyboard- you are doing a fine job with it.     Good morning. I hope you are enjoying this unexpected snow day. However, please remember that it is an eLearning day.  What that means is you are going to receive assignments from your Gold day teachers through Canvas or Google Classroom.  It is important that you complete those assignments too.  In the eLearning model, your completion of those assignments factors into the district attendance.  Therefore, please meet the deadlines of those assignments.  Of course, you can also work on assignments for my class to keep up or get ahead.
